Thing #5 Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

I have to say that the two things of found of most interest are related to the state of affairs of our country.

The New York Times reads,
Justice Dept. Will Fight Arizona on Immigration”

In this article written Friday, June 18, 2010 we learn that Hillary Clinton spoke to an Ecuadorean TV journalist in an interview on June 8. She spoke of the Arizona law granting local police the authority to check the legal status of people they stop. It is set to go into effect July 29. She stated that the Obama administration is going to file a lawsuit against the Arizona law aimed at illegal immigrants. Her goal was diplomacy meant to ease strained U.S. relations with Mexico and Latin American countries since the law was created. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer was not happy to hear that political leaders in other countries were given the news before she received any notice.

National Public Radio (NPR)
“Oil Spill Webcam May Haunt Obama”

I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the webcam showing the catastrophic oil spill leaking deep on the ocean floor and contaminating everything in its passage, namely OUR (meaning the world) WORLD, our home, land, animals, birds, fish, plants, the gulf coast, the U.S.A., all the people who lose their livelihood due to this cataclysmic event happening in our world. I want to do something to help. I hope to find a way.

For anyone interested, The Gulf Oil Spills: 7 Ways to Help in The Daily Green offers both direct and indirect ways we can help.

I found that I loved the RSS feeds. However, I quickly became overwhelmed with trying to keep up.

I find it incredible that there are plans to tax the money people are receiving from BP. This is money that is helping fill in the gap in their income after the oil spill has destroyed their livelihood. Did Katrina and Rita victims have to pay taxes on the money they got from FEMA? My husband was working in Beaumont at the time and received a small check because he was displaced for a time. I do not remember if we had to pay taxes on that money or not, though.

I also find it incredible that Mexico wants to join the lawsuit against Arizona. Correct me if I am mistaken, but what gives their President the right to think he has a say so in our policy?

I know it's a sensitive topic. It's even a risk to put words on paper for the world to see.

I'm really not unsympathetic toward the plight of the illegal immigrant. After all, I am a bilingual teacher and some of my students and their families are facing this today.

Unfortunately, it's about abiding by the law. Illegal immigrants don't just break one law. One has to break many laws in order to work for financial means and live here to work. Let's get that path set so that laws do not have to be broken.

As far as profiling, I have some African American friends who will tell you they have been dealing with profiling all of their life. Noone speaks up for them.

I'm not a racist, I truly believe in one race - the human race.

Both these issues will have long lasting effect on the world as we know it and as our kids will know it.

Where did we go wrong?
When will it end? Will it eventually lead to a demise? Who will clean up the mess and how?

Question for you, which issue am I addressing?
