Thing #1 Lifelong Learning

Most Challenging
Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind.
This, I do very well. I get an idea in my mind and begin the task of accomplishing that goal. I know what I want to do, I know what I need to do, and I get started with enthusiasm and energy. THEN....Crash, bang, boing!!.#% Something happens, I get distracted. Something else interesting comes along and I'm off on that task.

I'm a starter of many projects, finisher of few; I don't complete as many of them as I would like to or as many as I should. I've got some great ideas too!

Easiest
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
I'm ready when I start a project. I go out and get ALL the materials I need & more. I do my research. Remember, I start with GUSTO. I'm an overachiever and my toolbox reflects that. I'll invest my time and delve into the latest research and current books. I'll have a library of books related to the topic or project. I LOVE the Half Price Book Store (or they love me for spending mega $$$) I have the most current, the most advanced, the most useful tools that I'll need to start my project. I may not know how to use them, but that's another paragraph.

Habit 7 1/2: Play

EXPLORE and CREATE... I'M THERE. I'll spend so much time practicing, experimenting, creating, learning. Then Get serious and complete the project... What's that you say? (There you saw me. Now you don't.) There's a new idea around the bend?. I'M HERE, I left there!.

Most Important

Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning.

I'm easily distracted and get off on tangents. I check out of the task at hand and go into links. Then more links and more web sites, deeper & deeper. Soon, I forget where I started. I've spent A LOT of time and I haven't completed the original assignment.

On the one hand, this is good. I explore & learn with ease.

On the other hand, I don't prioritize well and spend too much time on the wrong tasks and miss deadlines. I'm random and I'm a procrastinator. Structure is difficult but certainly necessary for me. Somebody has to reel me in and make me finish what I start.

Sorry, my time's up. I'm going to check out the latest on wikis.

What is it about being on the computer that can take us to place we never intended to go? It's not like I get in the car and stop by here, then here, then there. Wait. I think I've done that too! Your response to habit 2 sounds like you are writing my latest online dating profile! Just kidding! However, I definitely relate!

It's good that you like to explore and play; that is the majority of this course.

I call it "Bird Walking." I also think some of our best teaching happens because we stray from the task at hand. Good luck with the 23 Things and Welcome Aboard!!!

I also like to get all my tools. If I know I have a project to do I get all the materials. I want to be prepared. This is also the easiest trait for me.
